Free for you as a Birkenhof guest

You really do get to make the most of the variety-packed offer available in the Hohe Tauern National Park with the National Park Summer Card. As a guest staying in the Birkenhof, you receive this free of charge, for the duration of your stay. It can also be redeemed on the day you arrive and the day you are due to depart. The Summer Card is available every year from 01 May to 31 October.

Großglockner High Alpine Road:

The most famous Alpine road leads you into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park to the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze. A natural and driving experience of a special kind awaits you on 48 kilometres of high alpine road with 36 hairpin bends and a climb up to 2,504 metres! The goal of the ascent is the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Höhe at the foot of the Großglockner. From here you have the best view of the summit and the Pasterze.

Gerlos High Alpine Road:

This Alpine road is an important pass road from Salzburg to Tyrol. It connects the village centre of Wald with Königsleiten. In the west of the Pinzgau, in Krimml, you can explore the alpine landscape between the Salzburgerland and the Zillertal in Tyrol. The most beautiful pass road is from May to the end of October.

Directly on this mountain road are the WasserWelten Krimml, the Krimml waterfalls can be admired from afar with a short stop.

Cable car and birds of prey show

The Rauriser Hochalmbahn, a 6-seater cable car, takes you in a few minutes to our “family mountain” Hochalm at 1,780 m. The bird of prey is located directly at the Hochalmhütte. The otherwise shy owls and birds of prey can be experienced up close here. Behaviour and habits of these partially endangered animals are shown in about 40 min. explained. Performances 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m.

Weißsee Glacier World:

Excursion experience with mountains, lakes and glaciers! Via the toll-free panoramic road Stubachtal (13 bends and 17 km) you reach the cable car of the Weißsee Glacier World. At over 2,300 m you can experience the impressive nature of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The Weißsee Glacier World presents itself as a popular excursion destination for walkers, hikers, mountain professionals and climbers.

Sonnblickbad Rauris:

Fun and relaxation for the whole family can be found in the heated outdoor pool (24 °C) “Sonnblickbad” with a large pool for swimmers and non-swimmers. For the extra portion of action there is also a 51 metre water slide, a beach volleyball court and table tennis tables. A great paddling pool with slide and parasols awaits the younger visitors.

Mountain golf Embach:

A golf game with exercise for the whole family! A total of 11 stations along 6 km of hiking trails were built at the most beautiful places. New and impressive “mountain golf courses” (similar to mini golf courses) were built from old farm equipment. The racket can also be used as a walking stick. Use of the facility incl. Rental equipment.

Squash court Rauris:

The 6.4 x 9.7 m squash room is located in the Hotel Sonnhof in Rauris. This sport moves the muscles and makes you feel pleasantly tired. Please bring your own sports shoes, 2 rackets and 1 ball are provided. Playing time 30 minutes. After the game, culinary delights await you on the Sonnhof panoramic terrace. Please make an appointment by telephone.

Rauris minigolf:

The well-kept 18-hole mini golf course is centrally located in Rauris, about 5 minutes walk from the parish church of Rauris. There is also a kiosk with terrace, a table tennis table and children’s play equipment. In the evening the facility is illuminated. Use of the facility incl. Rental equipment.

Wildlife park Ferleiten:

In front of the cash desk of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is the wildlife park with more than 200 animals native to the Alps. The paths are suitable for prams and wheelchairs. For children there is a 20,000 m2 Children’s Adventure area with free admission.

Kitzlochklamm gorge Taxenbach:

The Kitzlochklamm is certainly the most beautiful and impressive gorge in our region. The numerous small waterfalls, the impressive bridges and the small idyllic bays make the gorge a first class natural monument. In July and August there is always a torchlight hike with music on Tuesdays (extra charge required).

Bodenhaus gold panning site:

After the heyday of the Rauris gold mining in 15/16. In the 19th century, the Goldwaschplatz now offers an adventure area with entrance, washing pond, log cabin, children’s playground and outdoor grill. Included in the entrance: rental equipment (gold washing bowl and shovel). Exclusive vials for storing the found gold, admission is limited to 2 hours.

Heimalmbach Rauris gold panning site:

Gold washing at 1,480 m – gold washing pan and flask are provided for filling the found gold. There is an absolute guarantee of finding, as long as the practical advice of the professional gold washer is followed. The found Tauern gold may of course be taken with you. Good luck!

Kolm Saigurn – Rauris toll road:

The Höhenstraße takes you to one of the most beautiful valleys in Europe. The Hohe Tauern National Park unfolds here in its most magnificent diversity. Hiking and gold washing are just two of the extensive activities in this part of the Raurisertal. The waterfall path, for example, takes you past numerous springs and waterfalls to the Naturfreundehaus in Kolm Saigurn. The Ammererhof is just a 10-minute walk away.

Nationalparktaxi Seidlwinkltal – Rauris:

The valley bus takes you into the beautiful Seidlwinkltal valley to the Tauernhaus, the Palfneralm or the Golehenalm. There are many hiking opportunities open to you, such as the Litzlhofalm or the Grossglockner High Alpine Road to the Hochtor. Departure from Rauris, please note the timetable. Telephone registration only required for groups. Daily use and round trip included.

Ranger programme:

To the “Kings of the skies”, to the “Valley of the Vultures” or to the Rauris jungle – the National Park Rangers will give you numerous insights into the hiking area of Rauris and the Hohe Tauern National Park during a guided tour. With a little luck, bearded vultures, golden eagles, griffon vultures and other animals of the Alps can be spotted in the Valley of the Vultures. The educational trail in the Rauriser Jungle provides a lot of information about the natural Sturzwald.

Valley Museum Rauris

In an old trade building, which was built in 1563, many interesting and valuable exhibits of the former gold mining and the Raurisertal are on display. In addition to old exhibits from the mountains and associations, customs or the rural working world, there is also a lovingly furnished mineral room with beautiful crystals and finds from the Raurisertal.

Exhibition "Kings of the Skies"

The National Park Exhibition is located in Rauris in the district “Wörth.” Here you can learn interesting facts about bearded vultures, griffon vultures and golden eagles, which can be seen all year round or only in summer mainly in the Krumltal. The interactive exhibition and video screen offer visitors the opportunity to discover the “Kings of the Air” with their own eyes. Informative brochures or various souvenirs can be purchased here.
